Thinkpad Edge 0579-6AU USB Composite Device - UPDATE

I know, it'd be silly to go to that kind of effort to infect someone's currently-broken PC anyway. What are the USB composite device drivers you posted? Because I think there are a few other things on Thinkpads that can show up that way, like fingerprint readers

USB\VID_5986&PID_01A6&REV_0041
USB\VID_5986&PID_01A6

If these point to something I've already tried, it'll be time for a wipe & reload (nuke & pave). Hope you can point me in the right direction.
That ID is for a USB Composite Driver. That would not be the right item for this device but something it should be plugged into. Very likely that you have a faulty USB controller on this unit. Might test plugging up other USB devices and see if they are properly detected. I bet they aren't.

Altster,

Have you installed every driver available on Lenovo's site for that laptop? You may know, but I'll mention that some drivers are dependent on others being installed as well, even though it would seem that they should have no bearing on one another.

If plugging in an USB mouse and it being properly detected then I'm covered. On almost all laptops I work on I try to use an USB mouse 'cause I just don't care for those touchpads!

I shall look into these and see if any of them solve the issue.

A special note to all who have responded to this issue - THANK YOU for your help and suggestion(s). I know I've said this before but it bears repeating - This bunch of folks here at TN are some of the most knowledgeable and helpful and if it weren't for all of you, I'd still be researching a lot of things. So thanks again for everything!

Nearly everything as I recall. This after using SDI and 3DPchip and pcidatabase.com and all of the other research that I could find on all of this. Once I get this resolved (if I get it resolved) I will order the bottom inset cover and sell the danged thing ;)
