Weird problem - USB device isn't detected by software

Hi,

I have a weird problem:

It's about vinyl cutter(cricut). It's connected by USB to a pc and has it's own software.

It works fine in two windows 10 desktops.

It also did work fine in a windows 10 laptop some months ago.



But not when i try to install it , i follow the install instructions as specified, i install the software , and when the software asks me to connect the device to USB(in the pc port) i do so, but it doesn't recognize it.

And i don't see it in the device drivers - not as a cricut device and not as an "undefined usb" device.

Further , i've tried to use a USB diagnostics software(usbdeview) - and it does see it and see when i connect it.


How do i fix this ?

Thanks @glennd. I was misled by his reaction score, perceiving it as number of posts. Should have checked his profile.

Does it do the same thing in all USB ports? One group of ports could be bad, or have a compatibility problem with the device.

Have you tried it on different USB ports on the machine? Connect to USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 ports. Different USB cable.

Seems like a hardware issue if it doesn’t show up at all in Device Manager.

You could try USB Oblivion to remove all traces of USB drivers.
Let Windows detect the USB or install the drivers from the manufacturers website.
