Ok all of you Lenovo experts out there......

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (0579-6AU / LR-C88EG) which has an unknown USB Composite Device showing in the Device Manager which I have surmised is the Web Cam. At the moment, I have not been able to find the correct Windows 7 x64 bit driver for this device. Any suggestions?

I've tried the 2 drivers shown on Lenovo's support page for this - 2.0M & .3M camera drivers and neither of them will install. It's getting mighty frustrating to say the least.

And if any of you would have a source for the bottom cover(s) for the hard drive and/or memory (if it is just one cover) I'd be mighty happy to have that info.

Thanking you(s) in advance.

SDI I can't find the driver either?

And for bottom covers and stuff like that I just use eBay. They've got a ton of the bottom covers for the 14" Edge models based on a quick search.

Lenovos tool, ThinkVantage-System Update, can't find it?
I usually drop that tool on if I do a nuke 'n pave, and it finds all the relevant latest drivers for it.

Gotcha...I figured you were trying to stamp out those "Unknown Devices" in Device Mangler after doing a fresh install of Winders...
OK...so System Update v5 (I think that's the latest) didn't cure it?
Did you pull the object and refresh/scan for new hardware?

The "object" is the built-in webcam. I don't really want to take the unit apart to do that.

It has been sitting on my bench for a few days and can stay there until I can come with a fix (and the bottom panel for the bottom case.) If worse comes to worse, wipe / reload again.

For the bottom cover(s), try Lenovo Parts Lookup

For that model, when you look it up there are 5 items for bezels/doors, it does have pictures of each so you can see what you're looking at. Looks like there's a little rectangular vented one for the MiniPCI slot and a larger one for probably everything else.

Once you have the part numbers from there it's easy to find places to buy them.

You could try 3dpchip. Just watch for the junkware that it wants to add during installation. (uncheck the boxes) Along with sdi, this is my "go to" driver tool.

Also, maybe try installing EVERY driver listed under that model. Could be that it is not the webcam, or that Lenovo did something goofy by tying it in with another device...

Aside from that, you could pull the Webcam Hardware I.D. & google the heck out of it. You might come up with a driver that someone has posted on another forum, etc.

Update:

Installed 3dpchip and it was able to find updates to the computer - BUT NOT FOR THE WEBCAM.

Lenovo's software doesn't find it but on the drivers page it has the webcam AND the memory card reader bundled together. That driver doesn't work either. :(

The only thing I haven't done (but will be doing) is to pop the top of display bezel loose so I can get the part number for the camera and maybe, just maybe I'll be able to hunt down the proper driver for the 'USB Composite (Camera) Device' !

No, you also haven't followed the advice from @Krynn72 and @nlinecomputers (or if you have you haven't said so).

Try Snappy Driver Installer!

It's free, easy to use, will almost certainly solve your problem, and can be downloaded from here: https://sdi-tool.org

Please!
I guess you didn't know that I am a big user of SDI - have been since way back when! It doesn't find the item unfortunately.

You don't have to yell at me. I've done a ton of research on all of this and since I know there are many Lenovo people who hang their hats here in the forum(s) I thought that someone would have a clear-cut suggestion. But so far, no joy. :( :( :(

Could it be possible that the
New What are the hardware ID#s in Device Manager?

I mentioned looking at this in post #9. I am wondering if the hardware is defective though, as Altster mentioned that he used the proper driver from Lenovo's site and it did not work.

The USB composite device runs on a separate driver from the webcam. I think it has something to do with the sensor. Try this: http://goo.gl/9dBGR3
This is what I get when I click on that link:

Anything other link?
