Things to do in safe mode or tools to use

I forgot a lot of OS repair type stuff, and dont remember exactly which options to use for a machine that wont boot to windows 7 in normal mode

Typically i use safe mode for removing virus, faulty drivers and msconfig stuff

Are their specific steps for diagnosis in safe mode and or tools

My searches via google only brought up how to repair safe mode if it would not work so i need a refresher

There is a program called safemsi that enables windows installer in safe mode that will let you remove junk or programs causing issues.

Then check windows logs in event viewer for error and replace system files, run d7 or tweaking.com fixes, etc.

It's not exactly in Safe Mode, but I was just recently turned to the Kaspersky Rescue Disc and it is now a tool I use on almost all Virus Removals that come to me. Oh, and D7 is definitely worth a purchase.

If I understood his question correctly then no I don't know of any specific steps.

It all depends on whats taking place and when.

System won't boot into normal mode doesn't tell us anything. For example if you were to say the system automatically enters safemode instead of normal mode I would have a very good idea of what to check.

Not really sure what you are asking here. The reason for safe mode is to load the system with a basic set of drivers and services to get windows running be without a driver or service that might be malfunctioning or interfering with the normal operation of the PC. The only reason to use it when such a conflict is happening.

thanks.. been using it for months now and still finding new stuff apparently. I'm sure d7 does most of what tweaking.coms program does and more as well, old habits die hard.

Edit: and I'm pretty sure it links to event viewer too. My answer to this thread should have been open up d7..
