The "new" Ubuntus

Since Ubuntu gave up the Unity desktop they have embraced Gnome as the replacement. I'm sure that's Gnome 3.x but I still prefer the Gnome 2 flavor of Linux Mint Mate. But, Ubuntu is now offering Ubuntu Mate(?). Wow - Huge reversal for them! Hmmm......

Unity was garbage. Really, with all of the great options now Ubuntu is way down my list.

Ubuntu hasnt been on my list since they screwed us with Unity and all the advertising. I do use Ubuntu Server as its decent yet. However, For a DE I would rather be productive than look pretty. So, I use Mint Mate.

From what I understand, that is the way Ubuntu is headed. They appear to be emulating the Red Hat scenario especially aimed at business.

Xorg does need a facelift/replacement but Unity/Mir never got there and I admit I don't understand all the details.

I have not tried it but Ubuntu have a "Mate" flavour here.
