Curious. Because I hand-patched my website myself, not using wordpress, joomla, wizard magic, I am not quite sure how this works.

Everyone says "blogs, blogs, blogs" for website SEO.

Curious, why?
What part of the blog makes SEO sky-rocket?
Is it sheer number of pages with specific words being repeated multiple times?
Is it so people are clicking links on your website?

I am hoping a can just make a template .html file for blogs and then just put my article archive on my website?

What makes regularly updated blogs helpful for SEO is that they indicate a "live" website vs. a brochure site that hasn't changed in years (or that isn't likely to change). A "live" technical website has content about current items. A brochure site may have plenty of content about Windows....XP.

WordPress et al. are useful not just for providing templates, etc. but as content management systems. It's also not unknown for companies to use WP or similar as a CMS and generate the content and pages, then mirror that as a static site to actual hosting. That provides some obvious advantages for security, though it also has its own issues and you don't get to take advantage of some backend processing plugins.

Blogs are a great way to get relevant information that isn't a content duplicate. Google loves that stuff, and if you write well people will love it too. It's a way to turn your site into a TV station for just your content, it builds an audience, you sell to that audience.

I don't do this nearly enough, if I could get just 10% of my experience into blogs I'd probably have more work than I know what to do with. But writing isn't my strong suit, teaching isn't either... it takes BUCKETS of energy for me to do it once and weeks to recover from it.

It all comes down to one thing: Relevancy.

If I'm searching on Google "how to start a computer business", it needs to provide me with the most relevant website/page.
How does Google know that? There are a number of ways.
- How much content uses that or a similar keyword? How is it used? A page that mentions that in the title might be more relevant that a page that mentions it somewhere at the bottom of a 5000 word page.
A site that has that term a lot MIGHT be more relevant, but that can be abused so it looks at other things.

- Are there other credible sites linking to that site using that term? If other CREDIBLE sites are linking to that site using that term, then there is a good chance that page is authoritive for that keyword. For example, lots of places/sites link to Technibble based on starting a computer business, so Technibble is likely the most relevant result for that keyword.

Its a bit more than this but blogging helps you show Google your authority for the terms you are trying to rank for.
If I am searching for computer repair in Locust, NC. What is the most relevant site? Which one is the most authoritive for that keyword?
Googles job is to get me the best result, you need to show Google you are the best result for that term.
