Technet & OEM Software?

baccart;222241 I tried retails keys that I purchased said:
Which I am sure your aware is against the tos for use of technet keys. Those keys are for testing purposes only, or for installing the OS on your machines at work. They are NOT to be used on clients machines.

With vista and 7, as long as you use the coa on the sticker, the technet iso will install and activate. If the coa is unreadable, and there is no recovery media / partition, the only way you can reinstall windows is to contact the manufacturer and order some recovery cd's, or purchase a new windows cd and coa. Obviously the recovery media route is less expensive.

It is not your fault the clients coa is unreadable, sometimes its not the clients fault either. The coas on vista machines, I have found in the past to be made of paper, and the code easily rubs off. Which is one reason why, I always make a note of the coa, and store that in my clients database. Also I put a piece of selotape over the coa to stop the code from being erased.

VERY INFORMATIVE THREAD for me........
I went through pure hell reloading a Windows Vista home premium x86 with a Technet "retail" dvd. The acer aspire would not validate the COA on bottom og the machine.......

One call to microsoft and they informed me all OEM Activation Issues are now handled by the manufacturer......

I decided to call back today and was on the phone almost 2 hours and finally "I THINK" just gave me a key that would work......They knew I was using a retail version....I just played dumb.

It seems that back in 2010 I didnt have problems getting Technet Vista and 7 downloads to work...but i can rem if they were x86 or x64 versions......I did have to call in a couple times and say I had changed ram or HDD and they said ok typed in some numbers and ready to go in minutes......

AT Your Service had some mighty fine details about XP.....I have OEM XP versions and never had much trouble there (non technet)

I am beginning to wonder if I should renew my technet for the 3rd time.....

I am interested deeply in the possibility of turning these retail vistas and 7's into a viable media to reload an OEM COA machine. Any suggestions appreciated......on forum or by pm or email.

You could renew with Technet Standard instead of Technet Professional and keep your costs down.

You don't need to change anything. No special tricks here. It's all been mentioned in this thread actually so ...

Perhaps you should follow the link I posted earlier in this post. Lots of other threads on this topic here on TN btw ;)
