System file problem

Do you mean windows\system32\config\system is corrupt?

That's a registry hive and if it's corrupt then you need to check the disk and use chkdsk to get rid of any underlying filesystem errors and then you need to restore the registry file.

If there is a system restore point then great. If not then you can replace the reg files with the backup copies XP keeps, or registry restore wizard on UBCD4Win offers an easy interface for finding and replacing.

Been a while since I've worked on one of these, just thought I'd let you know that worked pretty good thanks. She's back up and running appreciate all the help.

That stuff should be carved in stone and every new tech should learn it. :p

Yep, I agree, just had one the other day, I had to do this on. Took about 20 minutes, also looked like a superstar in front of the endusers, and their managers!!!

Too bad it’s the end of XP it was so fixable not so easy to do with newer releases
I would give almost anything to be able to access old restore points in post XP
other than the one copy in RegBack
