Ok, so here's some background:

Windows 7 x64
etc. etc.
QuickBooks Pro

Whenever Quickbooks is opened, the Windows Installer box pops up wanting to install/update something, but then complains it can't update/install RemoteAccess.exe (a quickbooks file). This Windows Installer box keeps popping up like 5 times, and if you just leave it alone, or click cancel a few times, it will finally go away and let Quickbooks load/work.

Another strange thing, is when a certain game is run (some old Windows XP card game) the Windows Installer box pops up again, and tries installing the same Quickbooks stuff (the Windows Installer pop up says 'Quickbooks' in the title bar)

I would normally just uninstall Quickbooks, but atm, the client doesn't have his CD/media, so I'd like to fix this issue by another method if possible.

Does anybody have any clues as to what's going on here?

Seen that before with MS Office, HP Printer software, a variety of things really.

Never quite figured out how to fix beyond uninstalling the software, using the windows installer cleanup utility to remove the old installer entries, and reinstalling.

Have seen that when AV has quarantined qbupdate.exe In my experience Kaspersky is notoriously bad at doing this.

You could be onto something...I know he's running Kaspersky...so if I get a chance I'll check that out. Thanks. :)

Update:

Kaspersky (IS2012) had no quarantined items; I tried running the program as Admin, but the issue still remained. So...we're going to try and order some new discs from Intuit (it was an online purchase, but don't have download link available any more)

Edit: That's the US quickbooks site (I'm in Canada), but I'm wondering if those downloads should work/activate ok? I won't have a chance to test anything just yet, but curious if anybody knows offhand

I would assume they would work, but don't know for sure.

I've used the site a couple of times when doing a N&P and the customer had their QB license/product info, but no CD.

Wow, thanks! +Rep for you :D

They do not.
