SSID's

It doesn't really matter for me. For me, mine is with my surname. For the clients, usually it includes the surname as well, unless they prefer something else.

I ask the client if they have any preference of their SSID, and they look at me blankly... :D I usually call it something like a pets name so it's recognisable but not a privacy risk

I refuse to use an SSID that could identify the household to anyone outside.

I'll throw a random number after "default" or "linksys" just so that if a neighbour has the same router, there'll be no confusion as to whose network is whose.

I often struggle with the same question. Struggle == that i need to make it up for them...not really bad.

I have looked around for SSID generators but have not found any...or missed them.
I suppose password generator, like the one included in KeePass, might do but it could be overkill.

I try to use some cryptic but easy to remember and at the same time something that it does not identify the household.

At first I was using naming that did not identify the owner or address but then I thought, with WPA encryption, there was no need to be so private. It is unlikely that any war-driver is going to sit outside someone's home and crack the WPA encryption to get their WOW passwords or intercept their Facebook updates.
