Hey guys, I've recently had a bad run of luck with desktops. It seems that when I reinstall the operating system the audio drivers don't work properly. I get a red x on the sound icon. Even after installing the correct driver. Any insight here?

Thanks,

Dan

where are you sourcing the drivers from?

I downloaded the drivers directly from the manufacturer at first ( HP using the machines serial number). After that failed I tried 3dp chip 3dp also failed.

It's interesting, it has happened on 2 machines in a row now. Thanks :)

even with something plugged in it's a no go. I'll keep working on it. There must be something here that i'm missing. Just a new issue to me.

Has the windows audi service started? Does it show a fail ind evice manager to? Try lookup in the pci database to Id the sound device.
Had an advent hunk o'junk in that refused to make any noises. The oem support drivers and 3dchip failed to work. On PCI database had a note saying not to use oem and download some random realtek driver. Fixed it fine:confused:
If you get this a lot better save the drivers before rebuildnig

Yea, it's strange, audio service is started. HD Audio device in device manager says it is working. Icon in tray says no audio device installed. I'm going to grab the PCI id and go from there. Thanks!

Got it figured out. I ended up taking the failed drive that was still partially readable and harvesting the driver from that. Crude, but it worked. After retrieving the proper driver, I updated it.
