I have a Sony laptop VGN FW235D
Clean install Win 7
Have spent hours trying to get sound to work it's Realtech in device manager it has a yellow mark
I remember doing this same laptop a couple of years ago I had same problem I Googled and found a small file that fixed it.
I have tried an online driver updater, Snappy
I am almost ready to throw it away
I tried all drivers from Sony, I remember Sony was always a pain getting the function keys work
I am glad they don't make computers anymore

Have you tried right click on the Realtek entry in device manager (with the "yellow mark") and choose "uninstall."
Tick the box to "delete the driver software..." and reboot.
Let Windows find and install the driver for it.
