sony laptop function keys not working windows 7

Cant adjust brightest etc. with function keys


I found drivers

Tried Notebook Utilities did not help wanted me to change battery but its good
had this problem before with Sony laptops

If Windows 8, did you install VAIO Control Center which should tell you what software is missing.
If Windows 7 make sure you follow the steps here to install the necessary bits including the Sony Shared Library, hotkeys etc

I give up trying to link to the page on Sony's site as the link is broken every time I paste it.

Just had the same problem on win8. Grabbed the driver off the old HDD as none on the site fixed it

Is the screen brightness really low and you can't adjust it, even when you crank up the brightness in the power settings?

If so, it's most likely the sony auto brightness. If I remember correctly, you need the sony control center installed, is an option in the there to kill it. You also need the updated video driver for it to work (intel video?). The intel video control has an option for it as well.

Still cant get functions keys to work never spent so much time installing a Laptop

Run services.msc. Ensure the Sony Event Service is started. I see you already tried the Notebook Utilities so the Event Service must be loaded but maybe not enabled.

The on screen kybd and an external one don't have the Fn key so that route goes nowhere. I think the Fn is the one key a keyboard tester can't test.

Check the BIOS.
