Any one here use the SonicWall TZ 100? I'm looking for an affordable firewall solution and wondering if anyone has any experience using it in a small business environment?

If affordability is an issue then you could make a hardware firewall out of pretty much any old computer. You could install the smoothwall linux distribution and use that as a hardware firewall; it's open source and free for you to use. If you got a Mini PC with something like an atom processor then you've got a low profile, low power requirement solution you can leave protecting for years

I have set it up before. It's a good firewall and should be sufficient for a small business, but setting up VPN was a bit of a pain because the customer had some kind of weird requirement. It was a couple of years ago, unless it's not the same model, so I might not remember all the details.

The TZ100 is an excellent firewall. I just purchased two of them to link my office to my servers in a datacenter.

I recommend getting the TotalSecure bundle. It's more expensive than the base model, but you get content filtering, gateway antivirus, antispyware, antispam, and Intrusion Prevention.

In my experience, if you turn on the antivirus and antispam, you won't be chasing any viruses on that network. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how much business you are getting from chasing viruses!

It also includes 2 remote access VPN licenses and 10 site-to-site VPN tunnel licenses.

If you have any specific questions, post here and we'll try to answer.

I would get the TotalSecure bundle-the Intrusion Prevention and gateway security is great. I'm mainly worried about Intrusion Prevention-DoS attacks etc. The customers business is growing very fast - and the network/server needs to be up 100% of the time-or I'll loose my job :p (I've gotta setup affordable network monitoring-but that's another post).

Does this one provide logs or allow you to setup security alerts via email or sms like the more expensive sonicwalls?

Currently I don't have a VPN setup for him-he decided to stick to RDC for now-so I also need to be able to open/forward those ports...that's possible correct? (a vpn may be set up in the near future but he's happy). Thanks for the info!
