I had a client's cheapie Compaq laptop in for repairs; issue was random BSODs and overall sluggishness. Harddrive tested good with various tools. Tested the memory and within 3 seconds, memtest86 spit out all kinds of errors. Opened the memory bay up and saw this memory module in top slot, followed by original OEM Samsung memory in bottom slot.

Haven't seen something like this before. Chips have crossed out silkscreen IDs, manufacturer sticker over top sticker, and a random sticker on the back. Looks like chips that failed to pass QA and some buyer purchased them and resold them anyway. That's my guess.

I mostly only deal with business class PCs and never use cheap generic junk memory like this. Pulled this memory module, tested the OEM 2GB good, and added 4GB Transcend (what I had on hand) to get the laptop running again. Now just dealing with Windows Update issue.
