Should I change my trade name (dba)?

I'm thinking of registering Pritechs as a new dba for my business and using that instead of Pritech.

My reasons for considering this include:

1. All normal domain names utilizing just Pritech are taken.

2. If you perform a google search for Pritech (http://www.google.com/search?q=prit...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) you get results from tons of companies utilizing that name (and one that sells devices that I don't want to be associated with)

3. I have all of the good domain names containing Pritechs.

4. I don't have much that would need to be changed.

5. No other company uses Pritechs in their trade name.

6. I don't have much of a customer base at the moment so confusion with a name change wouldn't be much of an issue.

Currently Pritech is registered under my name and if I register Pritechs it would be registered under the corporation. If I were to do this should I keep Pritech or should I stop using it altogether.

Any input would be appreciated.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, i.e. try it :)

And I would keep both names, it puts you in a stronger position if any other pritech pop up.

I personally feel we should not try to insinuate that we are more than one when we are not :(

Haha! Ok.

I was considering that as well.

What are you referring to?

Here are my thoughts, I would just keep what you have going on and not focus so much on the domain issues, as when you get busier, those things don't really matter unless you are directly looking for google clients. I think what has helped CTG is the blogging. But, the best blogs are not my biggest hit with website marketing, it's my email newsletters that I draw to my website that work.

Here are my stats (and remember, I am a .biz, I was told years ago would NOT FLY), but I didn't care and stayed with it anyway.

Top 2 ways I get hits on my site...

Direct hits 936
Google hits 736

10. call girls in minneapolis 4 1.50 00:00:20 75.00% 75.00%

As you can see, people know the business name, but had to google it to get the information. So that means the name means something, google gets them to me. So it does have a payoff as I get many website bookings everyday and most of these are new clients.

I hope that makes sense. Probably more info than you need. :o

Edited to add, I'm sure a few here will argue against what I just posted, but it's just my opinion. I see too many folks worry about domain names and such and I personally feel that SEO doesn't work (if you pay someone to do it) because the only way I have found to get on the first page of Google is to SEO the crap out of blogs/websites and backlinker sites. I found this out from a guy who told me how he did it (and he's on page 1 of Minneapolis computer repair!). Paying for google ads is the only way that I see to get on page 1.

again, just my thoughts on this and why I have not paid for SEO help yet.

I understand what you are saying, but you are also established. I'm considering doing this before I establish a name that multiple companies are using.

I have an even worse domain name (pritech.ws), but the one I am using now is pritechs.com (I also have all of the good tlds for pritechs). I'm thinking of changing my trade name to reflect my domain name and also use it as a shortened version of Primary Technology Solutions.

BTW I love the hits you get from Google.

Yeah, don't love getting calls at 2:00 am though. I have turned my phone to silent for that reason. I think a lot of these folks are on smart phones that call me and don't see what I really do LOL. (for what it's worth, I don't have my personal cell phone listed on the website, it's my office in Minneapolis and it rolls to my cell phone. If I miss the cell phone, it rolls to my 2nd location office so I don't miss any calls!)

I get what you're saying though on the naming thing. If you think of it this way, it's rare that anyone will actually google your exact business name, they will google the key words that draw to you, am I wrong with that?

I'll be calling at midnight and I'll try to disguise my voice again to see if you can help me with a data transfer......lol...I give myself away too easily, Lisa!

Its been awhile and after some thought I think I should drop the dba altogether. Would be simpler for everyone. Change PRITECH in my logo to PRIMARY and put the Technology Solutions, Inc. underneath that. Less confusion for customers and it solves my problem with multiple other companies using the same name.
