Hiya.
I'm looking at getting shadow protect, but am lost regarding which version to go for.

Also, try as I might, I can't find any pricing. :(

1. I would use it on my repair PC for connected drives

2. I'm in the UK.

Thanks

I've had several tries at downloading the desktop trial.

"Your download key is not valid"

They REALLY don't make it easy do they :(. :(

Download from here:
http://www.storagecraft.com/software_update.php

Any of the installers at the top actually download the same file I think.
When you run it it detects what you're installing on and installs the appropriate version.
You'll get 30 days to use before you need to buy a key and activate.

Reason I'm looking at shadow protect ?

I'm imaging an 80gb hard drive sat in a touchscreen PC with paragon hard drive suite, at this very moment.

Projected time to completion ?

4 1/2 hours.

Using "normal" compression.

I think that program is hand chiseling the data onto my backup drive.

Could you pm the details as well? They have been phoning me non stop but I was too busy to deal with them but I'm interested in their products.

Sod it
In a rare fit of anger, I just bought the desktop version. $89.

No PayPal acceptance, but never mind.

I couldn't even be bothered testing it properly.

First impressions ?
Good clean interface.
Nice big tabs.

Comparison with paragon.
I aborted the backup as it said
Time elapsed : 1 hr 26
Time to completion : 4 hrs 46

Currently running shadow protect.
Remaining time : 48 mins.

Erm....... Go figure.

I downloaded the free one and with a bit of faffing around uninstalling Acronis I got it working. It's a nice clean interface and backed up an ide drive with 50GB on a usb convertor in about 35 minutes. Shame there is no clone disk option that I can see but I think I will buy it.

I found this

Once you get the serial, don't forget the free recovery CD download. It's a biggy at 500meg, but its a full vista-ish environment.

Also the free image manager program.

Thanks for that clone link by the way.

Shadow protect is mint, I used it for a machine i did some image tests with a while back. I must have restored a master image about 15 times i still use it, after i got hit with viruses etc whilst messing around.
It is expensive software but worth its wait in gold.

Theres alot going in the interface but its very solid. I just wish the bootcd was a bit smaller. It is very fat, but works great.

If you don't sign up as a reseller (why wouldn't you?!?!), then I would highly recommend taking out their maintenance service. Included for the first year, but then about £9.00 per year after that for the desktop version. Includes priority support, but also all of the version upgrades (v5 > v6 >v7 etc). If you don't take out the maintenance agreement, then version upgrades are at an upgrade cost.

Also, worth keeping an eye on the updates at http://www.storagecraft.com/software_update.php

As mentioned before, Stoaragecraft use a single image now, and it is the license code that dictates what version you get.

The PE boot disc is based on Windows Server 2008 R2

If you want to transfer the license to a new machine, you MUST (for sake of ease, and not having to call up the support centre) go into Help > Product Activation > Deactivate. The license can then be transferred to another machine.

Any questions, just PM me. I am proud to say that I do have my Shadow Protect Professional Certification.

Andy

Thanks AndyM for all that info.

If I had more time, I would have looked into the reseller option, but I was so hacked off trying to get a decent backup in less than half a day, that I just went for it.

I haven't delved into the guts of it yet, so more to come.

I didn't know about the maintenance option so something else to remember.

Cheers.
