Seagate 1.5 TB Sata Harddrive

1.5Tb is nothing to some people/companies

I've got nearly 4Tb of hard drive space scattered across 3 computers (My main rig, Server, Media Center) and I'm using nearly 2.5Tb of it. It includes my music collection, recorded tv programs, films, installation files/ISO images, Customer acronis images, my work files etc.

Modern software (e.g. Vista, Most modern computer games) take up massive amounts of hard drive space. Windows 95 only took up 50mb yet Vista requires 15Gb of hard drive space (according to Microsoft anyway). When I installed Vista on my media center the other day, it told me my 15Gb partition wasn't big enough and it had to be at least 23Gb!

Does anyone really see a reason to need a 1.5 TB Harddrive?

What would you use that space for?

You are kidding , right?

I can fondly remember getting my first 60 gig drive a few years ago and thinking "wow, I'll never use that much space". I had that drive filled in less than a month.

I now have over 2TB and I'm running out of space. I have had to resort to online storage until I can get another 500 gig drive.

These days with blu-ray and such one runs out of space very quickly.

I hardly ever use more than 30 gigs on my personal systems. I could see using up to a half terrabyte for backing up cust drives but that's about it. I don't pirate movies or tv so bleh don't need it on my personal system.

Size and speed are just making people lazy. The larger storage gets and the faster processors get the lazier programmers get. If people wrote software like they did in the 80's windows would be finished booting before you got your finger off the power button. I can remember how amazed I was at the graphics and complexity of software I used to have on my Commador 64. For you kids out there, the 64 stood for 64k. And that wasn't all usable. Programmers couldn't get a digital watch to function these days if they were told they had less than 64k to work with.

And while I'm remembering the good old days, my parents used to get mad at me for waking them up at night printing on my state of the art dot matrix printer.

One day, you'll look back at this thread and wonder what the hell you were thinking.

I have 2 1.5 TB drives in a RAID 1 configuration on my NAS. I'm currently looking at upgrading to a 4 drive RAID 5.

I have 2TB in one of my PCs and I have tons of free space but I expect to need more but not until I need a new computer or grow my business. I will say from what I recall the preformance drop off for that size drive just makes it better to go get 2 1TB drives and if you can RAID0 them then your set. My set up is 4x 500GB drives as they give one the best prices per gig and best preformance in the higher capacity drives.
