ScreenConnect has been bought out

I am interested to see how this affects me as both a ScreenConnect partner and also a LabTech/ConnectWise partner.

I wonder how my attended remote support sessions will work, will there still be the ScreenConnect web console or will it all take place in LabTech. Also wonder how it will handle the 600+ unattended sessions I already have setup.

Here is what my email invitation to the webinar states on the new integration.
"But that’s not all. ScreenConnect’s industry leading remote control solution will be natively integrated as the default option within LabTech, available FREE of charge with every LabTech license, eliminating your remote control challenges for good."

Setting up a local server for ScreenConnect is (was) on my ToDo list for this weekend. I wonder what will happen to the licence price in the coming weeks ... buy now, or wait?

More importantly, what will happen to ScreenConnect as an independently usable service? I have no interest in anything else in the ConnectWise portfolio and worry that SC will end up either being fully integrated, or priced out of contention for low-volume users (me).

According to the Screen Connect website they remain as they were a separate company and still selling Sc. From my reading this morning it sounds like Connectwise bought them to add to their offerings but are still allowing its purchase and use as before. That may change over time but that is my read on it from the info on the website.

Yes, and I wouldn't expect either company to say otherwise. Press releases are rarely indicators of company policy or roadmap, rather tools to calm client and market reaction.

Cynical? Yes, I am.

We're excited!

We will certainly offer ScreenConnect as the same standalone package as before. ScreenConnect Software LLC is a subsidiary just for ScreenConnect. The Raleigh development team will stay focused on the core product. They want us to grow by doing the same thing we've been doing for 5 years, just a little more of it.

LabTech customers get ScreenConnect for free. Their guys did a kickass job on the integration. And I think there more great things to come from them with integration.

Thanks for clearing that up Jake. :)

I would not be suprised at all to see a significant price hike in the next few months. The very reasonable price and good support is what has made us stick with SC. As an Autotask/MAXfocus shop, I was disappointed to see them bought by a competing PSA/RMM vendor. They'll get it for free and everyone else will have to cover that cost with higher pricing.

@Instant Housecall - Corey, you are my first stop if these fears come to fruition.

I have both Screen Connect and Instant House Call - love them both.
I use SC for unattended installations, you just can't beat the price there. And I use IHC for ad-hoc remote support. I've found it to be the easier choice for my customers for that scenario.
I honestly can't praise both of them enough really.

I say good-job to ScreenConnect though, this is a big thing for them and those guys deserve the recognition (and money?) for all the hard work.

What is the latest on ScreenConnect? Thinking of doing away with MaxFocus and dipping into some remote support! I'm in the lower tier with MaxFocus and don't want to keep it going with anyone that puts me in a position to loose pricing control! Any suggestions?

What is the latest on ScreenConnect?
Depends what you mean by "latest".

My personal experience: I use it daily, and have done for the last year. Development is still very active; I've just updated to the latest version (complete with the very useful remote printing feature) and I shall be purchasing another year of updates soon. I use it for temporary instant support sessions and I also use it to manage and maintain around 200 computers via saved unattended sessions. I also use the notification system extensively to alert me (via email), such as when critical systems go down.

In my opinion, SC is the best out there, especially if, like me, you don't like to be at the mercy of 'the cloud'. The self-hosting feature was the biggest selling point for me.
