Samsung recalling new Galaxy Note 7

Bought one for my wife. Like it a lot. I'm not particularly concerned about the risk, but I'll exchange it if a 1 to 1 exchange becomes available. Can't afford "no phone downtime".

Sorry there's a problem, but kudos for Samsung jumping on it relatively quickly and working on a replacement plan rather than just sweeping it under the rug as the tiny fraction of problematic phones that it is.

I agree. Samsung came through quickly. I got one as well and love it. I'm debating when/how I'll replace it. AT&T has stated to return it to the store where you bought it, but didn't say what to do if you bought it from them online. Sigh. They are doing a sort of loaner if you choose. I'll probably just switch back to my Note4 until the new ones are available.

I've been waiting on this model to replace my aging S4. Good for Samsung for nipping this in the bud (at great expense, I'm sure), but I'll bet that adds a few weeks to the process of getting one here. Verizon was to have them available on 9/5, I guess not so much now.

"Great phone, some exploding" - I wonder how this will effect the overall sales?

I called AT&T support and the information they have is not the same as what is being published.

If you bought you phone through AT&T online you are to take it to the nearest AT&T store (be sure it's a corporate store and not a retailer one). They will exchange it for one of the Galaxy S7 version phones even if the Note 7 is damaged or you can just return it.

I have seen published comments in AT&T press releases that once the fixed Note 7's come out you can return the phone you have and get it, but AT&T online/phone support knows nothing about this.

I have concluded that AT&Ts right-hand doesn't know what they left hand is doing and the last thing I want is to be stuck with a Galaxy S7 which I don't like.

For now, I'm just keeping my Note 7 and seeing what Samsung does and how fast they get the new ones out in circulation.

Less than 0.01% have reported this problem out of the number sold to date.

I'm just going to wait as well. If I get paranoid, the Note 4 is sitting here waiting. The message from AT&T really is just too confusing. The S7 is a nice phone as well, but I bought the Note for a reason. I do not want to get stuck with a lesser (IMHO) phone.

Another example of the sketchy quality of batteries out of China. From those put in "Hoverboards" to cheap laptop batteries on Amazon and eBay, you never know what you're getting.

Supposedly they were actual SAMSUNG batteries. You know, to be honest, the exploding N7 may haunt them short term, but they sell a LOT of batteries into the market for companies who actually want a quality battery that achieve or exceed their rated mAh AND safe... I bet you this recall hurts Samsung more on the battery side than their cellular side.

You left out the cheap batteries in Apple products. I've seen my share of balloon OEM Apple batteries. :p
MANY. I repair phones too, and I see a DRASTIC thickness difference between batteries in the same model of phone (We're talking upwards of a millimeter, AND lighter) on original Apple batteries, pre-balloon.

I have honestly stopped asking clients if they've had their display/battery/whatever replaced before. The outside may have to look perfect, but inside, Apple doesn't appear to give two squats. I've seen people's LCDs cracked from screws loose inside missing locktite; Variety of battery thicknesses; Pinched/kinked cables; Missing display cable shield and much more, and some appear to have never been opened. I thought the usual (Customer not being truthful), but with the 6S/6S+ coming in now and seeing the glue in perfect condition with these same issues....
