Replacing glass on ipad 4 - messy

Blood Orange oil ? Weird. I wouldn't think something like this would be the choice solvent for glue removal.
[OT] Orange peel oil is an internationally traded commodity, used in a wide range of foodstuffs and household and industrial cleaning and conditioning products. Pleasant odour, non-carcinogenic, bio-derived; cf. petrochemical alternatives.

It's also flammable: squeeze a piece of orange peel next to a flame, for an interesting party trick (safe to try).

So yeah, this is not a repair I would wish on anyone.

When you put that back together, if there is the tiniest scratch or piece of dust or fingerprint or hair on the LCD, it will be the first thing you will see and the first thing the customer will complain about. Have fun.... :p

SUCCESS.

The ifixit instructions were only helpful to a point...mostly just the repeated warnings about not severing the wifi cable and other cables. The glass was so thrashed on this one that none of their other removal instructions really applied. They also really should have mentioned the use of solvents--I honestly cannot see this happening through heat alone as they seem to imply is possible.

The "customer" got to see several steps of the long and painstaking process, which took the better part of today. If the "customer" has any complaints about the outcome he can do it himself (and go sleep on the couch).

Probably a better explanation on why the pre-stuck "3M" adhesives don't stick very good. Fake 3M tape. This Bowler Tech stuff is no joke. I don't like spending the extra time putting the tape on the glass but compared to do-overs or trying to re-stick lifting glass, it's time well spent. We haven't had a single glass pop up after switching to Bowler Tech. Of course good preparation is still essential.

You were so right on this. The 3M crap started lifting immediately.

Oh man - LOL. Aren't these "in house" jobs always the worst? I did an ipod last year under similar circumstances. When she....I mean my "customer" dropped it again this year I refused to look at it. That was the single most challenging/frustrating/glad-to-get-it-over-with repair of my career.

Couldn't agree more that the Bowler Tech products are very top notch, if a little pricey! They are made with 3m 300sle tape and I think a roll of that would do most techs just as well

I thought I would give your recommendation a shot and ordered about 100 templates to test. The stuff we received is terrible, worst than what is on digitizers originally. We've tried to stick this stuff dry, it lifted, then we tried it with heat and clamping it overnight, it lifted in a couple hours after we removed the clamp. I'm not sure if we got a bad batch or ordered the wrong stuff from him but we're back to blower tech until we find something better. I'm throwing away the rest of these templates as they are just awful and rework will be guaranteed if we ship anything with this tape.
