Replacement 'door' for DVD Player

Aloha everyone. Well, today I managed to break off the 'door' that is on the front of the DVD player. This is on an Acer TC-780-ACKI3. I'm guessing sourcing a replacement door is going to be difficult, but I'm hoping someone here can point me to a place that might have this part. I've sent a message to the Acer parts partner, but I'm guessing that they will only have stuff like hard drives and the DVD player itself, not the door.

Any suggestions gladly accepted.

Aloha @Porthos. Maybe 'door' is the wrong term, but it's all my brain can come up with right now. If you look at the picture you posted, the upper oval area on the front panel is the 'door' I'm referring to, and it is attached to the front of DVD player's tray. That whole thing extends when the DVD player's tray slides open - not like a lot of desktops where the cover / door is a spring-loaded hinge at the front panel and tilts down when the tray opens.

The customer brought this machine to me as she "lost" an important work CD in it. It was (somehow) wedged on top of the DVD player, and I think that caused interference between the door and the front cover and broke the door when removing the front panel. Once I got the front panel off, the CD was sitting right there, amazingly not scratched from being stuck on top of the DVD player.

@HCHTech At this point, I could glue the door onto the front of the tray, but I'm not sure I can get it aligned so that the tray can open and close without hitting the front panel.

@Markverhyden - good find! I will probably order this as I don't see any others out there

@Blues - Today, I found a manual for this machine that specifies removing the DVD bezel BEFORE trying to remove the front panel. I'm extrapolating that gluing on the bezel will either prevent removal of the front panel or end up with the bezel being forcibly detached from the drive if I ever have to remove the front panel again. Wish I had found that yesterday...

Thanx for the responses!

Correct. When slim opti drives were introduced with laptops many OEM's shipped the entire thing, including bezel. But with the proliferation of laptop styles they switched to using the same drive and having the tech remove the bezel. There's usually two small clips protruding from the bezel that slip into two slots on the bottom of the cd tray.

Yet another "win" from the "How can we possibly make this cheaper?" mindset/drive-for-endless-profits/OEM-BS-Department!

Yep, I know that now...

I could fill a book of the "lessons" like this I learned in my first several years of business. Each one eroding my respect for manufacturers. I'm old enough to remember when companies made things "good" and "sturdy" instead of "as cheap as humanly possible". There used to be a market for "more expensive but worth it", but I guess that's all gone now. C'est la vie!

Does the tray bezel have a part number sticker? Even a bar code? Most such parts often have a DPM code on it. Looks kinda like a QR code. You can find DPM scanner apps in the Android or iOS store.

@nlinecomputers There are a sequence of numbers & letters, but nothing show up when I google tham. But, I did learn that this is a '7' recyclable item. Unfortunately, here in the islands we can only recycle '1' and '2' plastics

Well, I did get a good reminder that I need to do more than just check the manufacturer's website for manuals. After I had already broken the part I found a site that had the actual Acer manual with instructions on how to remove the bezel before removing the front panel. Live and learn... and lose a few $$$ replacing a part I broke - fortunately, not a real expensive part like a iMac screen...
