Remove adword ad once hit top spots organically?

Okay so I'm using google adwords extensively and have worked hard on making good ads which is producing the results I'm after.

However, after doing a lot of SEO I've noticed that I'm ranking at 1 or 2 for several keywords that I'm running ads on. The result of course is that I have both a google ad and a natural link on google at the top spots.

So I'm wondering if I should delete the ad and save money or keep it since this will decrease the amount of clicks to my website? What are people more likely to click, the ad or an organic link? After all, the ads show up even higher than the organic links.

Not done this but try pausing your campaign and track website visits or calls through analytics. This will tell you if you have a decrease and you can reenable them if needed.

Why would you want to do that? As I see it, I'd rather pay for the click than to leave a spot for a competitor to gain access to my market. The more times you show up on the first page of google for a search term, the higher the chance that the prospective client will click on your site. At least that is how I see it.

I agree with this. If you aren't worried about the CPC, leave it as is. I'd keep that right where it was.

If you really want to know, I would suggest running a split test. Have CPC clicks go to a certain page and the organic clicks to another. You can further analyze at a deeper level through conversions. Also, if for every CPC dollar spent you get two in return, then who cares?!?

Needless to say, if you will dominate both SEO and Adwords, then your competition is thinning day by day (unless they are getting in work in other ways that are less costly for them compared to you).

I used to be very anti-PPC. I rank in the top 2 for the majority of my keywords so why bother? Then I had an epiphany one day that the demographic that most needs our help, can't distinguish between paid ads and organic ranking anyway. Now I dump ~$1000/month into my campaign with great results.

Plus, as said above, the more times you show up, the more likely you are to get a click, and it keeps competitors from showing up above you in the ranking.
