Remote Support Software for Single Tech / Sole Operator

I use a combination of ScreenConnect (I also bought self hosted before the price increase) and IMPCRemote Professional. For the PCs & Servers to which I need a constantly available connection I install both clients. That way if my "fixed", actually somewhat permanently leased, IP from telus ever changes I can re-install the ScreenConnect agent with IMPCRemote. IMPCRemote would likely work for most applications but the graphics are a little cheesy at times. One benefit of both of these solutions is I have no limitation on the number of PCs from which I can work. The self hosted ScreenConnect, at least for me, works great for serving people who need instant support. I must say that some of the other suggestions here look very attractive also. Thanks!!

IMPCRemote is VNC-based (actually, from their FAQ it's basically VNC with self-hosted or hosted-by-them repeaters) and most folks here aren't using anything VNC based. My past experience with VNC has been that it's quite a bit slower than some of the other options out there.

I used to use Instant Housecall, it worked ok for the most part, but since with how I run my business it is mostly a one time run for me to login to someone's machine. Usually after I give back a computer from fixing an issue and they need their printer installed, ect. I didn't like that the install could stay on their computer. The price tag starts at $29/month, so $360/yr for the basic one tech / one session at a time. I went to cancel them and asked for a refund since I got charged the same day. No dice. They said I will have a 1 month credit on my account and I would have to sell it to get my money back. I emailed them and call them a week ago and still have not heard back because I found that their credit card processor was charging an additional 1%. (which they blamed my credit card company and said it is probably a foreign credit card, which is it PayPal). After the first time I talked to them about the refund and they know my phone number, they have stopped answering and returning my phones calls. Horrible customer service.

Unless you want a headache of canceling avoid Instant Housecall.

I now use Zoho, they had a deal for a year for $72, with 1 tech seat and 20 concurrent sessions at a time (I don't know how I can work on 20 computers at a time, but it would be nice $$ :) ). I did have 3 going at one time and everything worked great. The transfer file rates seemed faster than Instant House Call. The chat interface was good and I liked that I could restart and reconnect the computer. Pretty easy to use.

Since I'm just starting out I need to keep a tight reign on the money flow. As such I'm using ImPcRemote and like some of you here, Notepad as my Chat tool. I've used ImPcRemote and I can deal with the slowness, which is not horrible. I'v also used www.join.me in a pinch.

We tried several options and settled on GoToAssist. It has a good balance of features for the price and has more than paid for itself each year. It looks very professional to the end user as well.

If you only support Windows machines and just starting out with no or very little capital, check out Remote Assistance/Easy Connect.

I just wanted to add to this. I got the email last night but it was in Spam Folder. Email was originally in German that is why lol.

AnyDesk released their app for iPhone and Android. I just tested it and it works very well and it's quick!. From what I gather it was a long time coming but so far so good. Definitely worth it.

Tagging @Larry Sabo @Your PCMD since we discuss this product quite regularly here.
