Hi I am doing a format and windows install for a customer, his windows and everything was working but I think he was planning to hand the computer down to somebody. So I popped in the recovery cd, formatted the drives then set it to reinstall the software to factory spec... which it finishes no problem. Takes about 15-20 minutes. But after it says everything is compete Goes to the we Apologize for the inconvenience error (you better!) then it goes to a blank black screen. safe mode freezes up as well.. Any ideas?

Update: Customer had 2 windows installed, the recovery doesn't change the MBR or anything.. so im trying to get the ultimate boot cd to work to fix the boot stuff although it hasn't yet.

Update 3: Quite an adventure

Turns out the customer gave me the wrong recovery disc.. that was for a different toshiba... That would explain a lot.. I formated the drive and put something on it and now its working.. thank god.. Dare I try to put the service packs on now??

just a tip for future installs. most the time its easier just to keep an updated windows install disc like windows xp sp3 then just install with that then just update and install the drivers. this is good because laptops like toshiba normally have no problem finding the latest drivers on there product page. and its always best to give the customer the pc back with all the latest drivers, windows updates etc.

while its true that its better to give the customer an updated computer the problem is that the recovery disc usually have some added progs such as dvd players that the customers are used to and they want them there when they get the computer back.

If the software is on the dvd or cd on the recovery disc than just pop the disc in and install the software from there without the other junk installed by manufacturers.

the recovry cd's usually are images of the system before they leave the manufacturer so you can't install the added software from the recovery disk
