One of my clients runs a mechanic shop and is looking for a new PC for the shop floor. As with any shop, it's a very dusty environment, and not very PC-friendly. Because they're so far from my office, I'm leaning toward setting them up with a fanless micro-pc that won't need to be cleaned out as frequently. The requirements aren't very extreme... internet access and possibly an application or two, with the potential for RDP/RemoteApp in the future, and I'd prefer something that would accept a 2.5" SSD as opposed to an SD card. (VESA mounting would be a plus, but not required)

I'm seeing a ton of off-brand intel-based machines that look promising, but nothing that I feel very confident with. Do you guys have any suggestions? I'm aiming for around $300-350 for the PC/HDD/RAM.

I'd seen the NUC's, but couldn't tell if they were fanless or not. The one I was looking at specifically says "Low-accoustics active cooling design" on the Intel site, which translates to me as "quiet fan."

All of the NUC's I have seen do have fan's, but other than that I would think it would be a great fit. Maybe you could come up with some sort of filter, but that's a whole other mess.

Thoughts on this box?

I have used the barebone cases by Habey for a long time to build custom firewalls. They are fanless and very reliable. I used to get them from Newegg but they have kinda dried up and are hard to get. Here's one of my favorite that I found on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-small-...414373?hash=item3d150156e5:g:9x0AAOSw~gRV7S6g

Good to know! I'd seen quite a few of those Qotom Mini PC's on Amazon... but the lack of reviews and shipping from China was a little unnerving.

I read some articles about this i wonder if this thing would last or how many months or years would it be working. Have anyone tried or brought
