Had my web server up for 7 years going to rebuild hardware and software looking for ideas should i run VM?.
Atm there are 2 websites running off of it the hardware is ancient ie. Dual Core with 4gb ram in a rack mount lol.
Current setup is ISPConfig on CentOs 6.7,Apache, Postfix, Dovecot, Pure-FTPD, BIND finding it is slow running Wordpress.

Unless you're doing custom app work on it or running seriously high volume, it's not worth the electricity to run it on your own hardware in your own shop. Running in your shop it's just another point of possible attack (e.g. someone hits a WP vulnerability, compromises the box, gets local root, scans the local network for soft targets).

I've been happily using Hosting Matters (http://hostmatters.com) for probably 15 years now, but they're in Florida and you're probably better off with someone priced in debased northern currency Canadian dollars.

how about x10Hosting free?

The veterans at x10Hosting pride themselves on giving their free hosting customers a stable and high-performance environment with the latest versions of PHP, MySQL, and cPanel.
  • Storage: Unlimited
  • Domain: 2 add-on domains, 1 parked domain, and 2 subdomains
  • eCommerce: 1-click installs for eCommerce platforms such as Magento
  • Bandwidth: Unlimited
  • Email: 3 free accounts
  • Website Builder/Design: Website builder with more than 150 templates; other programs available via cPanel installations

Unlimited storage and bandwidth is a major plus for x10Hosting, along with a support community of more than 750,000 members.

That is not bad for free.

Nothing is free. They'll be logging your and your customers activities and selling the data.

I'm not really a big fan of free either, particularly for services. I can see it in software - beyond all the open source stuff, there are things I've built in the past for myself that I just gave away because I didn't want to turn it into a product. For services, there's a cost to providing service to you and if they're not making enough somewhere to cover that cost then they're signing contracts somewhere with a broken business model.

Saving a few $$ isn't worth the hassle of finding out the hard way where they're cutting corners or suddenly having to find new hosting because they've closed shop unexpectedly.

If you really want cheap, possibly take a look at Nearly Free Speech (https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/) - as long as you're not hosting anything likely to get slammed with high traffic, they're a mighty cheap option.

Edit: I ran through their pricing calculator with what I think are reasonable values for a simple WordPress site that you have your own separate registration on, and it works out to around US$3/month - closer to $2/month if you don't want them to be forwarding email for the domain but instead will set your own MX records on the DNS to point elsewhere.

Have any suggestion for a web hosting company.

Run away from anything free, and from anything too cheap like Justhost or Bluehost. They'll rope you in on cheap rates in the beginning, but will later kill you on the extras and upgrades knowing that it's too much work to switch. Plus, their hosting speed and uptime sucks. And, forget about support with this type of company, it doesn't exist. You'll wait hours and still never find anyone intelligent to help.

Siteground has been amazing since I switched to them. Not only does my site load 3x faster on average than before, but the support is great. If you have an issue, they answer the online chat widget right away and will fix it within minutes. I've been impressed each time. Even when the issue turned out to be with one of my files on my site, they quickly found the issue and resolved it with no issue. In the last couple years I've only had about one hour of downtime, and it was scheduled maintenance that was in the middle of the night. They even notified well in advance about the planned downtime.

@Galdorf if you do want to roll your own on a server going the virtualization route is the way to go, I use ESXi. Rather than all of your eggs in one basket with one server doing it all you can split up the tasks depending on needs. Personally I've got one VM running my email and another running the website with ownCloud. A third has the Ubiquiti controller.

But this is just for me and my business. I really like having the direct access and control.

Best is to avoid free web hosting provider , more chances are to loose your data and you can not even ask as its FREE.
