Questions about home visits

You US guys really do live in another world..... And I mean that in a compassionate way.

It put my measly grievances and hassles into perspective.

The worst outcome I could think of is if my car gets vandalised.

My personal safety rarely comes into the equation.

...... And I've never had a customer "puppy dog" eye me :(

Reach for a sick bucket perhaps but never "the other"

Maybe next year .

Your too funny, car vandelism in Leeds...never! ;)

I refuse to offer in home service anymore.

I have been bitten by cats, dogs, ferrets, and a horse.

I have ended up in disgusting smelly houses.

I have ended up in attics in 130 degree heat.

Smoke filled dingy homes.

Creepy mouth breather over my shoulder watching my every move:

Ugly house wife hitting on me.

Kids throwing a fit and screaming.

I have seen it all, and refuse to do home repair anymore.

I get a lot of these calls, i get through it by realising that anyone can fall on hard times, and a spirit of 'there but for the grace of god.....'

This reminds me of several homes in my neighborhood. The good thng is that I know most of the 2,000 residents in my little town so I can usually sway them into bringing their problem to me by quoting my hourly rate lol.

Merry Christmas :)

One of the biggest issues I personally have is the range of people I visit, particularly the "top end" domestic users.

I've been to houses where there are official notices on the door requiring the occupants to vacate on a particular date.
The family living there are obviously decent and desperate, with the guy trying his best to find a job and keep the family together. And they treat you really well and are very hospitable.

Contrast that with customers giving me sob stories about how "hard up" they are and how they are having to watch the pennies ........ with classic cars downstairs in a bespoke garage, and a 5 star holiday to the Italian lakes coming up, similar to the one last year.

That disparity, for me, is the worst bit of the entire job.

I can't think of any residential customers who could afford to call me out at 2 am. For businesses it's all remote work after hours.

I think with gang banger and drugs the way they are in all the really big cities you should have your wits about you after dark.

Around here occasionally you hear of the pizza guy getting his pizza stolen or his change purse. Once in about 17 years I heard of someone actually being hurt.

If you get a call out at 2am, you should make sure it's not a prank by a competitor who thinks you are doing too well.
