I have a client with a laptop she uses for some volunteer work. Was originally Win 7 but upgraded last year on her own. Everything was fine until a few weeks ago when her Publisher would crash upon opening with the "publisher has stopped working" dialog. Up to now I have tried the following:
1. Tried rollback but no restore points.
2. Scanned for virus and it is clean.
3. Opened in safe mode but crashed the same way.
4. Scoured Bing for a solution but found none.
5. Started the program from command line with the /a attribute to prevent add-ons and it started but then said there were no add-ons available. This one was curious.

So I am currently doing this
MSCONFIG with everything but the MSOffice starter disabled and the program starts and runs properly.
I am methodically re-enabling groups of services (eg: all the A's through C's, next startup add the D's through H's) to find the culprit one that is conflicting. I know it will work but it is time consuming.

Anyone have a better idea?

The problem is that you used Bing. Try Google! Seriously, Bing in my opinion can't find its arse with both hands.

Did it work with no addins despite the message? Is it Publisher 2016? Try logging on as another local user. Does it work then?

I had a client that had the forced ugprade to 10 and broke Publisher. We were going to do a rollback but she said it started working. Wish I knew what she did, unfortunately I don't know.
