I did a fresh install on a dell computer today with a brand new hard drive and the same master windows xp disc that I have used hundreds of times.

I activate windows and then proceed to updates. When I do so I get redirected to another page
Code:
support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281

I have sp3 installed as it is slip streamed on the install disk.

It does automatic updates, but I cant get the windows update page to come up still.

I have also tried this:
Code:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

I have NEVER seen this before and want to know if anyone has any info on this?

Thanks!

I had this same problem on a couple of machines last week. Turning on Automatic Updates and restarting before going to the Windows Update site fixed the problem.

May I suggest that you download and install Adobe Flash and the current Java, reboot and then go to the Windows Update webpage again.

I had the problem myself 2 days ago.

Is the time set correctly on the machine? That's about the only thing I can think of that would stop WU from working on a properly-installed fresh OS. And trust me, it will. I've bashed my head in before trying to fix similar issues, only to realize the time was set to like 2002 (in 2010). Fix time, WU works.

You could also try to re-register its DLL's and services with Dial-a-fix. http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix

Just went through this 2 days ago at a customer site.. I don't have the link in front of me, but you need to install the latest version of the Windows Update Agent. Optionally, I believe you can install this before SP3 as well to avoid the issue all together...

ah.
Have seen this issue many a time, and resolved it everytime by forcing the Windows Update to reinstall. Basically you download the latest windows update agent (from MSoft), then use the /force parameter to force it to reinstall. The link below shows pretty much what needs to be done (it loads VERY slowly though!)

This seemed to do the trick! I have installed that and it didnt work, but using the force command did it! Thanks so much, I probably never would have found that!

interesting I will have to save this for next time. Had this issue yesterday for some reason it just started working when I tried from my shop. thanks

Odd. I saw this exact same issue for the first time yesterday also. I just let windows download the updates on its own instead of using the windows update site. There had to be some kind of issue yesterday with the update servers. Will remember this trick for the future.
