So... I'm new to this whole "starting my own business" deal.

How do I go about getting the "company" itself setup so that I can become a REAL business?

I know I need some kind of legal stuff, registering my business name, confidentiality agreements and contracts for my business accounts.

Is there a list of information anywhere? I know Bryce has a kit which has a lot of the paperwork stuff and it looks pretty useful, but what ELSE do I need to do... This is the part that is pretty overwhelming for me right now, I know its a big step and I need to get on it as soon as possible.

This answer to your question is dependent on where you live and/or plan to work from. It's best to just see an accountant or lawyer in the business of doing this for you. The small price you pay for their services will be worth the piece of mind you get from knowing it was done right.

The Technibble kit has nothing about registering your business, because it varies per area. My advice would be to talk to an accountant to either advise you on the type of business to set up, or help you with paperwork if needed.

For me, setting up was actually extremely easy. My state has a new business pack that gives all of the state and federal forms to fill out, based on the type of business you want to run... Read up on what's required where you are, and look into resources (new business sites, provided by your state for example) available to you to get you started...lots of help is free.

That's actually really helpful, Thanks. I really wanted to know where to start. I was looking for stuff on the Texas.gov website and I was totally lost. Their website has a lot of information but its not very easy to find if you don't know what you're looking for.
