Printer that ABSOLUTELY works with Win 8.1?

I'm having a heck of a time finding an all-in-one printer that works reliably with Windows 8.1. I have a client that is at her wit's end with her Canon all-in-one and a Fujitsu Snapscan--right now they will work one day and then not the next. The drivers are horrible. Looking around, it would seem a lot of printers that work just fine with 8 don't necessarily work very well with 8.1 for some reason, and that seems to be the case whether the box says "fully compatible" or not.

Anybody else run into this? Know of any printers with a scanner (doesn't need a fax) that will end the pain? The cheaper the better but I'm open to anything at this point.

(I'll be suggesting ditching 8.1 altogether and going to 10 when it's out, but unfortunately that's not for another another month and a half).

My Canon MG6150 (wifi) and rusty HP Officejet 6100 (usb) both AIO survived w7 and move to w8.1 I only use the canon / hp drivers from site. Those pre programmed Scan To... buttons don't work on the HP any more but that is not a show stopper.
Maybe I'm just lucky?

I have a customer who spent a ton of money and time for me to get his HP Officejet Pro 8610 to work as a network printer on his Dell 8.1 laptop. After exhausting all efforts, including all levels of HP tech support remoting in and spending over 2 hours on each on two separate sessions, and replacing the printer with a same model replacement, we finally had to give up and use it connected via USB. He has been trying to get compensation from HP and I'm unaware of where they stand at the moment. I've also had similar problems with a Brother MFC, but the customer wisely abandoned further efforts before going that far. Windows 8.1 must be the worst OS of all time.

I've run into the exact same thing with Windows 8.1 on network printers. Neighboring client replaced her Brother MFC with a new model and swapping it out was easy peasy, UNTIL they upgraded a main workstation to 8.1. I'd go over there and reboot everything it would work, next day or few days later it didn't. Sometimes a reboot would work and other times nothing worked. Because it was just a workstation without critical data, I did a factory restore and put it back to Windows 8 and haven't heard of the issue since.

That's why on any restores I do, I recommend that they NOT upgrade to 8.1. Wait for 10 to come out, and then some. Just did one yesterday and told the customer that.

With the HP and the tech remote support, it was funny: he got it working and was in a rush to close the call when I said, no wait. Lets reboot. Sure enough, it failed with the same communications failure after the reboot.

Sadly, this aint even network printing, I'm talking direct connection. I haven't had this many problems with printers since Vista.

Had this issue with a client on a HP printer. Just returned it today and got a Brother MFC. Setting it up on Tuesday. We will see how it works out.

Using a Xerox Workcentre 6015n ( UK model) and works fine via both USB and Network.

So are we talking upgrade to 8.1 vs native 8.1/clean install here? It doesn't seem to be a guaranteed fail across the board.

Granted we run 10 on everything now... but all my brother units work so good news for the future i think...

Any issues? I would be nervous running a beta OS on production machines. I only have it on a Dell desktop and an Asus laptop, but it doesn't feel ready to me. No major issues, but I'm still recommending my clients wait at least until end of September.

HP Officejet Pro 8610

I set up one of these (actually an 8616, on Wi-Fi) the other week with an Acer desktop with Win8.1 (upgraded from 8) and it went fine.

Connected the printer to Wi-Fi, set a reserved IP address (at the DHCP server) and then used the HP wizard to install to Windows. This is a residential client, so both the PC and printer have surely been switched on and off a few times and I would have heard if there had been the slightest problem.

I have been using a Samsung SCX-4824FN on on my windows 8.1 using network print and scanning without any problems

I had a lot of trouble with an HP 1022n connected to a small home network with 8/8.1 machines. (basically, just a four-port router). Fixed it by giving it a fixed IP and then taking that address out of the scope. YMMV

Had a lot of trouble with an clients OfficeJet 6600 when going from 7 to 8.1 but was fixed when the printer firmware was updated.
OTA update so quite clean.

I have an old Xerox Phaser 6125, which works fine with 8.1...

When I initially was testing Windows 8 before it was released, there was no driver and there were all these crazy work around then one day out of nowhere, Windows simply supported this printer naively! Yeah, it is not an all in one, but I hate those.

I wouldn't recommend my customers use it, but no issues outside of some minor software compatibility issues.
