Pretty Pathetic

What do you expect from someone who calls himself a web designer and still uses tables.

Actually I still use tables too. Its fine for small projects. CSS is wonderful for a larger projects and for site-wide conformity, but when I want to make a few pages quite often I will do it with basic tables and I can code it by hand.

I am so sorry about this. Yes I borrowed content to get the layout and had all intentions to get back to it. I want to make a public apology to those involved, I had no intention for it to stay.

I am sorry and am in the process of changing it now.

Hey Nick, good catch. The guy made an apology although he wasn't supposed to use it in the first place (at least ask man).

Also, Tables are bad for design elements only. DIV's or, divisions are made to put content into sections whereas tables are for tabular data like a chart or when you need to keep text in a columnized fashion (e.g. look where my Avatar is, then to the right is my name, further to the right is my contact information, etc.)

It also helps to keep your div's in a semantical format. For example, if you're going to have a navigation bar then call it div id="navigation" or "nav". This is actually what HTML 5 is doing and I'm very excited about it :D.....uh, my inner webdesigner is showing, sorry.

Just called BaileyTech and got him on the phone. Sounds like a real nice guy, lol. Hopefully he'll be changing his site in the near future as well.

Nick, you might want to "re-arrange" your content if others are plagiarizing it and refuse to remove it. It's a pain and you shouldn't bear the burden but duplicate content can be harmful in search engine rankings.

Thanks Rusty, I actually forgot about that. I am going to give it till tomorrow and see what happens. I probably give our family lawyer a call as well. He'll enjoy this one :)

This isn't the first time plagiarism has been mentioned on Technibble, a few other users have posted about it. I'm glad I haven't linked my site.

I think I might try "randomizing" my content just to be safe.

Saw it and pm'd him, thanks. The other guy changed his as well. Thanks to both members for changing their content so quickly.

Educate me - No flames please!

With that said, really, what harm does it do to copy certain things from websites? Frankly, I love the website of one formerly active Technibble member. As they do not have a copyright on their page, and it seems to have been abandoned early last year, I don't think I'd hesitate to copy their design. We aren't competing in the same geographic area, so what's the big deal?

If someone stumbled on to both sites with the same content their opinion on both companies might be skewed by the copy site. Another thing is it can potentially wreck your page rank on popular search engines due to duplicate content (Google doesn't like showing two of the same article and avoids it as much as possible).

So in turn not only is it considered theft it's also considered defamation. Another thing, one doesn't have to place the "© Company Name" ever since the DMCA went into effect. I believe the DMCA states that any content created by any means is automatically protected under copyright law. The © just gives you a better standing in court and physically registering your content as a © gives you an absolute defense.

This is what I can think off of the top of my head.

Thank you! Wasn't aware of the DMCA but now I can be mindful of it.

What's the big deal? That cracks me up. Be original and come up with your own content. Don't steal someone else's.

If we were all that lazy, then everyone would have the same website, and the same web content .. Starting to get the drift ??

I'm just mad he beat me to it.:D

I kid of course Nick, but think of it as "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" :p
