This question comes up a lot and we all have differing opinions.
Here is the opportunity to share yours.

When you recommend and/or sell a paid-for anti virus program to a home user, what do you recommend and why?

Please vote and then explain your reasoning.

There is a separate poll for FREE antivirus if you are interested

I was reselling AVG but never really happy with it.
Now I recommend and resell TrendMicro Internet Security Pro (the package for 3 computers usually).
Pros: Good installation, reasonable scan times, nice interface (so I don't get a lot of calls after installation), and I can usually pick it up at deep discount and resell it still less than list ($70).

None.

You didnt put in an option for that.

I stopped selling AV software a while ago. Too much handholding or support and most people know they can get free ones.

Home users I don't sell AV's to either. I stick with the free AV's for them. For businesses I recommend NOD32.

free for me as well, i get cpus with paid, updated eset, kaspersky, and all the top paid ones fully infected all the time so why pay for an av, my free ones and common sence work for me.....let my customers pay for "some protection"...lol.

Install Avira AntiVir Personal (free) and suggest Avira AntiVir Premium for those that ask if they can get improved protection.

Yea same, my shop is an avira distributor, we wouldn't use anything else just because this is the best av out. Light wight with the best dection

Free = MSE as of two months ago. Was recommending the Avira and telling all that they should consider the paid version if they like the software.

Paid = Eset and no other for the last 1.5 years as it is hands down the best that I have ever worked with.

Avira Free version = Terrible download connection for definitions.

Recently they added new servers and this has been very fast from what I've seen for some time now...but also it is slow due to users USING it which again only confirms it is so great. :)

Disappointed to see that PC Tools isn't on the list. I'm a reseller with them, and I would probably recommend that.

I could only have 10 slots for the voting so I chose the most popular. My Dad used PCTools and liked it but I don't have any experience with it and did not see it in the reviews of the most popular AVs.
