PC will not boot with printer on????

I have a Dell Optiplex 260 running XP Pro hooked to an Epson CX6600. When the Epson is on the computer will not reboot. I get blinking white cursor in upper left of monitor. Turn the printer off and it reboots just fine. In BIOS I have tried fast boot disabled and enabled. I’ve disabled all boot devices except the hard drive and it still does the same thing. I think it is trying to boot to the USB device, but I can’t figure out how to tell the stupid machine to just boot to the hard drive. Any Suggestions?

Have you tried setting the hard drive as the first boot device?

I remember this issue well. Bios sees the printer as bootable media due to the card reader. Some bios gives the option to turn off USB booting. See if it's available. If not, just be sure to turn off the printer when you shut down windows.

I have BIOS set to boot only to Hard Drive all other devices are disabled. It does not give option to turn off USB as a boot option.

This is a network printer in a home and must be left on.

First update the BIOS to A09 because there have been a LOT of fixes especially in USB Booting. In fact, I think the GX260 has some BIOS versions that are not even capable of booting from USB.

Now go to Integrated Devices > USB Emulation > and change it from "On" to "No BOOT"

See if you have a setting in the bios for integrated peripherals» USB emulation. see if you can set it not to boot.

Do you mean it's shared with other computers on the network or it's actually attached to a network print server? If it's shared, then the computer hosting it has to be on. If the host is off or rebooting, it won't matter if the printer is on or off.

That did it!!!! You know I saw that option and didn't really didn't know what it meant.
