A Mac user of mine recently started using OWA over the Outlook application for Mac.
When people send him an .ics file it opens in the iCal Apple calendar program.

Is there a simple way to change this behavior and automatically be added to the O365 calendar?

That being said, if there isn't, then the second manual option on this page, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...s/c765c07e-20ae-44b5-baa4-1d4f94fdfbeb?auth=1, should work if push comes to shove.
I had trouble loading that link on my main browser, so I'm going to paste the text of the answer here for ease of reference:

Very easy in O365 or OWA.

  1. Save your .ICS event form the email it was sent from to somewhere you can access it
  2. Go to O365/OWA Calendar.
  3. Select Add Calendar from menu
  4. Select option "From File"
  5. Navigate to the saved .ICS event file
  6. Make sure the Calendar you are importing is selected in the import form file dialog
  7. Click SAVE
  8. Event appears on O365/OWA

I should have been more specific, the .ics files are just individual appointments, not a whole calendar. Is there a way to make it as simple as just clicking on the .ics attachment?

No. As @britechguy pointed out you can associate a file type to an application. The problem is OWA is not an application. It's website loaded by the web browser application. You can drag the .ics file from the email and drop it into the OWA calendar. But you still have to do the stuff @timeshifter mentioned.

Curious why your client made that choice?

Not sure. What is even more odd about it is about 6 months back he was having some Outlook issues and I kept telling him he could use OWA in the meantime while I worked on it and he was grumbling about it. Flash forward and now he seems to use it exclusively.

I'm curious about why he receives this .ics files?
A client of mine uses google reservation to set their appointments, unless you receive this .ics files from an application?

Definitely a hack, but you can configure the 365 account into apples Calendar app and set it as the default calendar. When the user opens the ics file it will add it to the calendar which will sync to 365 and appear on their calendar in OWA.

Plus they’ll still get notifications for the calendar on the computer without using the built in Mail, for email.
