Outlook and pst files (pffft!)

It shouldn't be this hard. (What? How hard can it be for MS to have Outlook be able to import it's own .ost file?)

Well..the post here began with a failed hard drive, right? Outlooks PSTs are a database. Database files are often at higher risk for corruption, especially if it was up and running during the failure. Variables such as, the larger the PST, and the less system RAM on the machine, file was likely "open" and even higher risk for corruption. Add intrusive antivirus real time protection trying to grope the PST all the time...

cant say I am too happy with outlook and pst files at present either.
When we setup new machines for customers we normally copy the folder with the pst files in and put it in place on the new pc, it will ask for the passwords for the emails and away we go.

I tried this on my own pc last night (gone from W7 + O365 to W10 + O365) and it was as if the outlook folder was empty :(
Not sure if the fact that I already had O2007 installed on the W7 setup when O365 was installed was a factor or not ? :(

Not impressed.

If you are copying pst files by hand you are going to have to setup the account and point it to the PST file. I use Fab's which copies the PST/OST files, registery data for email accounts, etc. So all I have to do is open outlook and put in their email password.

I did it by hand first time, but used FABS afterwards but no dice :(

Perhaps it is because i did it manually first.
I am swapping the motherboard out tonight so will do a fresh install of W10 with it.

.Do not open outlook before you restore from fabs.

this sort of worked.

The main PST file was corrupt but as that only affected 2 emails addresses, I re-added those and created a new pst file and manually transferred all the old emails over to the new pst.

All my imap accounts worked fine though.
