Outlook 2007 won't let me do anything, its showing his email address from the copied over files and theres no way to get to the settings. Nevermind, I googled and think I found out how to fix it from the control panel, unfortunately will have to wait to see if they figure it out with godaddy, thanks. It's Exchange, so I would just create a new profile and let it re-create the local copy of the email.
I wish I had more experience with outlook, I've always just used fab's and opened the account with no problem. So what you're saying is to go into the control panel and remove the mail profile, make a new one and just import the pst file then?Hmm, the message says Exchange so one would think this account is either on hosted exchange or O365. Either way it should just require signing into the account. There shouldn't be a need to copy anything from the old setup. You may need to create a new Outlook profile though.

thanks so much, will I need the server ports, etc or is all that in the fab's files?Yep. The OST file is the local copy of the exchange mailbox. I would keep your backup around just in case (there are tools that will convert the OST file into a PST file if necessary for recovery), but get rid of it on the new machine. Just delete the existing profile altogether using the Control Panel mail app, then go back and open up Outlook. It should prompt you to setup a new account - fill in the appropriate information and let it connect to Exchange and you should be good. It will create a new OST file using the Exchange store. You can instead create the new profile in the control panel mail app (instead of through the Outlook prompts) if you like - it works the same either way.
Are you sure there are PST's? As in did you actually see a file called <insert file name>.pst? Fabs does not know the difference between account types like Exchange, POP, etc. That message said it backed up an OST file, which cannot be transferred like an OST.
well, fab's copied two folders: OutlookPST >2 folders inside that one: LocalAppData,> archive.pst, outlook.ini, outlook.ost inside
then MAPI> username.reg theres another folder OutlookNK2
Basically yes, but I prefer to not delete profiles until I have a new one working. Just leave the current one and create a new profile, then tell Outlook to open using the new profile. You shouldn't need any other settings other than email address, display name and password for Exchange/O365. The beauty of Exchange based is everything is synced on the server so as soon as you sign in it all gets synced to the new profile on the machine.I wish I had more experience with outlook, I've always just used fab's and opened the account with no problem. I'm going to call her tomorrow and see if godaddy got it figured out for her, if not I'll remote in and try to fix it, I don't really want to run fabs remotely, you think having outlook installed prior to running fabs would have helped?Did you see that .pst in the customers original Outlook? At any rate I'd probably try this. Delete the email account in Mail. Go into the Fabs folder and delete the ost. Then rerun fabs and see if that helps. You want the other stuff as that has things like address history, etc.
cool, hopefully I'll get it straightened out tomorrow.Basically yes, but I prefer to not delete profiles until I have a new one working. LOL Right!!!Sorry for going off topic, but why do we always click on the "OK" or "Exit" buttons even though it's just a picture!!...or is it just me? Lol
ok, I think I have this right, I'll post back if I get a crack at it, thanks! The archive.pst is a local archive file. The outlook.ost is the local copy of the exchange mail. You can (and many times, should) setup Outlook to archive old mail out of exchange and into a local archive file. That's what your client must have been doing.
So. Create a new profile, let Exchange download a NEW local copy of it's email, then once that is done, you can copy over the archive.pst and open it in Outlook. Then edit the properties of the inbox folder, set the default autoarchive settings as you want, making sure to point to your archive.pst file as the target. Then choose the "apply to all folders" option.
Note - if the archive.pst is huge (say >10GB), then it's time to create a new one. You can still open the old one in Outlook, but set the autoarchive settings to store it's mail in archive2.pst or something. When you run the archiving the first time, it will create the new file.
the pst and the ost are both about 4gbOne more detail - if the size of the archive.pst you have from the backup is tiny (256kb or so), then it is just a shell and doesn't have any old email in it. In which case, you can probably not worry about archiving at all for the new installation.
