Client has windows 8.1 and installed Outlook 2013, copied over profiles, all working correctly for 4 days.
Then this morning his PC stopped receiving new emails. Although the iphone and his old PC running Outlook 2003 still continue to receive ok.

I have done a Scan PST, it corrected few errors but not fixed.
I created new profile on PC and started fresh outlook with IMAP settings, still no sync.
Updated everything I can think of through windows/microsoft update.

Turned off ESET.

Interesting I sent a test email, which he got on his phone, yet I received a Mailbox full time out Mailer Daemon message.

Any ideas?

I've has issues with IMAP and Outlook 2013 syncing, not sure if it's the same issue but it's something to do with the folder structure and you have to put a /Inbox in the settings

Usually I check the usual suspect, how large is the mailbox? If large, move out some emails and that should help. Even though 2013 can hold a helluva lot of email, IMAP can still get stuck at any level I have found.

What is the host doing? How large is the mailbox? Are emails sent/received as expected in webmail?

Perhaps check that you have the right settings to access the host (port, security, etc.) i.e. did they change something without telling you.

The addy wouldn't be blacklisted, would it?

Very possible.

@Calx Who is the IMAP host?

Does O 2013 advertise the same SSL/TLS capabilities as 2003? Cypher suites have changed a lot in the last few years.

Orange (France) has been rolling out TLS-only connections for the last couple of months, so I have two or three enquiries a week for mail clients failing to connect. Nice work – ten minutes on a remote connection to change the port and SSL/TLS settings. The Orange knowledgebase information is up to date, but no-one checks there.

thanks for your advice... it was the folders.
We moved all the folders off the inbox into personal folders and then everything worked.
Only took 5 hours of head scratching to work it out.
:)

Agreed with YOSC. Best practice is to not put the local PSTs on a network drive, but in my experience, it hasn't caused any problems, and is a heck of a lot easier to backup. I hate these resolutions where you create more issues than you solve. Outlook is like this great promise of a software that just never quite lives up - but it's the industry standard so we all make money by building crutches and workarounds. I guess.
