Online Accounting/HelpDesk Software

I am debating on developing an online Accounting/HelpDesk software application that the computer repair industry can use.

I have some ideas, just wanted to get some input on it. Likes/Dislikes, etc.

basically, you have www.mycompany.com as the main site.
businesses would sign up for the service and pay a monthly fee.

to access it you would go to your main url - mybiz.mycompany.com and log in from there.

from there, you would have access to the helpdesk dashboard, accounting features, etc.

Would this be of interest? How much would you pay monthly to be able to use such a system. Pretty much combine quickbooks with commit or any other accounting system with your favorite helpdesk solution.

probably have some additional features of the ability to add/update/close work orders either with a smartphone app or iPhone app. local db on a netbook/laptop/desktop, and sync up when you have an internet connection.

just some ideas.

I think you might find a resistance to businesses wanting to store their customer data and billing details on your server. Have a look at the comments in the thread on cloud computing.

Let me clarify and see if I have this right.

You are saying you are wanting to create a software similar to Commit CRM or TS MAN. I'm guessing you would have support to print labels to put on the computers that will have barcodes on them to simplify when you get repeat business on the same computer. I think this barcode should be linked up with all the data you have entered on the system including last fix and everything.

As far as accounting, if it could handle that, it's a sure winner in my book. There would be a need for accessing the system when I couldn't have an online connection though. I need something that would have an app that stores the same "sycned" database of what you keep for me on your server on my iPhone and / or on my netbook.

What I'm thinking is:

I go to a client's house, they have dial up internet... I'm not going to sit there and wait for the page to load or anything.

What if I'm not near a computer and get a call? It'd be nice if your app could have a calendar w/ alerts to let me know that an appointment is coming up and that space is taken when I'm talking to a client as to not put two clients in one slot.

I'm just thinking out loud here. All this features would make for a really great All-In-One application to eliminate the needs for ANY other software when running my business. Hell as time goes on, make a "screen" for bills and such. You could track when your rent is due, your utilities. I don't know, I'm covering all the bases... but I'm probably clear into version 5 of the software.

For now, I'd love to be a beta tester if you could get something that will just work similarly to TS MAN and / or CommitCRM. Perhaps some others would like to help if they are good at coding and some others would be willing to beta test this service. That is - if you would like it to work that way. I don't know, just my two cents.

Not to throw a wrench in your gears, but this has been done already x1000, with free, open source software as well.

As I was reading the initial post, this is exactly what I was thinking. I am not even sure I would be comfortable storing it on a personal web server, none the less somebody else's.

Sorry mate, full on Help Desk, Asset Management, SLAs & Escalations, iPhone web-app, Time & Materials Billing and Tracking, Knowledge Base software already done...and done quite well.

Keep us posted. Everything can be improved...

This one is a toughie mate, it felt like we tested 20-30 help desk solutions before picking...and yes, most of which were free / open source...eeek There is a ton of them out there! Definitely do you research; test them all; make one better!!! Cheers!
