OneDrive to reduce storage limits

I think this has been known to be coming for awhile. I remember reading about it when they dropped the unlimited storage. Probably a lot of people missed this part in the furor over the unlimited bit though. But man, Microsoft must have really screwed up their projections for OneDrive stuff to cut back so hard. They used to be competitive, but now Google Drive (which still gives 15gb with the free acct) and Amazon are much better values. Well... at least as far as storage space is concerned.

*and* you can uninstall Google Drive when you're done with it.

Some users were uploading in excess of 75TB of video files so MS cut the unlimited storage on paid accounts. I can't see they will gain much by cutting the free accounts to 5gb. It will drive more people to GD for 15gb instead.

I just got the email today, I have actually stopped using onedrive sync a long time ago. The thing is I promoted onedrive to friends and stuff to get up to 45g's. Now they want to take that away? Although I stopped using the sync function I still have stuff I use for links to websites that will be gone. As MS being the biggest computer company they shouldn't be doing this type of shat. I think this has to do with win10 and basically them offering everyone this free storage, like it or not.

There was an option up until the end of January to opt-out of this shrinkage, I got a notice in the last day or so that space would be shrinking but because I'd responded and opted to keep the extra space I was going to be able to do so.

Got that as well

"As you know, the amount of storage that comes with most OneDrive accounts is changing from 15 GB to 5 GB. You previously confirmed your desire to keep your 15 GB of free storage (and the 15 GB camera roll bonus if you have it).* As a result, your account will not be affected by these changes.
We also want to extend an offer that we are making available to users who are close to or will be over the new storage limits. You can claim a free one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal.** This subscription includes 1 TB of OneDrive storage.
We want to apologize for any inconvenience these changes may have caused you. We listened to our users’ feedback, and we are committed to making OneDrive the best option for people who want to be productive and do more.
Thank you for using OneDrive."

Hah, I didn't get the offer of Office365, but I'm not actually using OneDrive for much except auto-upload of photos from my Windows Phone (which lacks a SIM, but works for playing podcasts and which came with a one-year Office365 subscription).
