Norton Removal Tool

OK, I have a machine that used to have Norton Internet Security 2009 on it. The customer uninstalled it however we all know that Norton is notorious for not completely uninstalling. So I downloaded the Norton Removal tool. When I try to run it the tool tells me that it is expired. I couldn't find much on Google about it other than to make sure the clock is set correctly. Both the BIOS date and time and Windows date and time are correct. There was another fix to delete a registry key. I tried that and it is still telling me the tool is expired.

Any suggestions?

Crazy, I had the exact same problem today. After I got the error using the tool from my flash drive I downloaded directly from Symantec and still had no luck. It is machine specific though. I ran the tool on a different machine and it worked...I researched the issue as well and didn't see any concrete solutions.
 
Just another reason for not using Norton.
Any "normal" company would have checked for a update rather then simply expire.

I don't think this thingy checks the system clock, I ran this on a computer today that was set to the year 2006, still it insists to have expired.
So it must be checking via Internet, I guess?
 
Whew! Glad I'm not the only one. I'm having the same problem with it and have tried the support page and the regedit fix on the "what if this doesn't work" page. I'm going to be calling Symantec shortly about this. In this case, on a very badly infected machine, the regular Symantec uninstaller isn't working properly either. I really do have a love/hate relationship with them. Love how much business they bring me...
 
I've tried every fix I can find (not many of them to find). DL from Symantec (several times) as well as other sources. Verified clocks correct. Deleted all temp files. Deleted SymNRT registry key. Still tells me it's expired.

Hmmm, it seems the worst viruses these days disguise themselves as antivirus software. Windows Antivirus, Antivirus 2009, Norton Antivirus...

Anyway, if anybody has any more suggestions I'm all ears (or eyes?).

I'm always annoyed when I run the tool to have it tell me that it's expired. I go to Symantec and download the latest version, run it and it usually works then.

HOWEVER: If you search the hard drive and the registry you still find a bunch of leftovers. What a pain.

Last time I used the tool, I did the normal Add/Remove from the control panel first with reboots. Then I ran the Symantec Norton Removal Tool, expecting it to tell me that it didn't find anything. Wrong. It ran without any messages and told me everything had been removed and to please reboot my computer to remove any files that were in use. After that, I checked the drive and the registry and still found quite a few leftover pieces... though several were just empty registry entries and empty directories... but not all were empty.

Give me a program that can cleanly uninstall itself without needing a special tool and I'll be a happy camper. Same goes for McAfee, too.
 
Yeah someone here use to joke that The Norton Removal tool is the only good program Norton actually makes. I guess they got wind of this joke and decided to teach us a lesson.
 
First I have to apologize, I'm guilty of one of my own pet peves. That is people not closing a thread with the solution when they resolve a problem.

Anyway, thank you for all of your inputs. What I ended up doing was cleaning up the registry manually and removing any other Norton references.
