Save it as missing.reg (Make sure you include the Windows Regestry Editor Version 5.00 line) and then double click on the saved file to import it into your regestry and hey presto, you now get sound of flash content and system sound. You may have to reedit your sound scheme when you have finnished but at least syem sound & flash content now works properly.

I ran into this problem tonight, and it turned out to be a simple fix. I had just installed a bunch of Windows updates, and somehow my default sound playback device was changed. I went into Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Audio tab, and changed the Sound Playback default device to be my sound card, and voila, the sound came back on to internet videos and windows system sounds, such as the sound you get when you empty the wastebasket.

This worked for me!!

I can only imagine that mine was due to the removal of some video conversion apps I installed and uninstalled, but this registry merge brought back my Windows sounds immediately and my volume icon after a restart.

Good work man! Saved to my toolkit. Hey for you with sound issues still, some onboard sound card drivers require, umm I believe Microsft UAA Function driver, this may be limited to Realtek devices though. Also, if you ever believe you are experiencing codec issues, you can sort through the mess w/ a sweet little proggie called filmerit, has solved all my issues to date! Also I believe that when the system sounds icons are greyed out that means we either do not have the correct driver installed, no driver present, UAA missing, or most commonly, Bryce's suggestion.
