I know sound issues are quite common and typically all that is needed is a new driver, however I am working on one computer at the moment that is proving to me be more of a pain then originally expected.
Basically the customers computer is a custom build system with a Gigabyte m61sme-s2 motherboard with integrated sound and video. The customer called stating they had no sound on Windows XP SP3. Apon inspection I see Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices it shows "No Sound Device" and all options are grayed out. In Device Manager the Sound Device is displayed as "Realtek High Definition Audio" with no erorrs or warnings. The Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager also loads at startup and is in the Control panel. When going to the tab for "3D Audio Demo" in the Effect Manager and Clicking the play button the Effect Manager Closes and disapears in the task bar.
Up to this point I have downloaded and installed the lastest Drivers for the Audio as determined by the motherboard. I have installed the latest Chipset and also tried an extra PCI Audio Card but in all cases Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel still states "No Sound Device"
I figure this is something windows related and attempted to do a system restore to 3 months ago as a test but issue did not get resolved. I know I must be missing something blatently obvious at this point but I have been at this PC for too long and can't see the forest from the trees anymore.
Any Suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance.
