I just got a new digitizer sent to me, I got everything back together. Seems like it responds to you touching it but its way off. Or doesn't work at all.

What I tried:

Taking it back apart and reattaching all cables.
Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled drivers.
Recalibrated it, which seemed to make it better but if I touch top right, it becomes off again.
I did a hard reset on the laptop.
Trying different drivers now.

Any ideas why it would be off?

Background on laptop, customer did say that the screen was stepped on by her kid. But no visual damage that I can see on the lcd itself and color is perfect and crisp. So don't think it can be the LCS screen.

I hope its not the digitizer, as i already had to return on back to him for being the completely wrong part.

From my experience it's the digitizer most likely, does it also have a removable digitizer board that could have been damaged while stepped on, what model is this?

Edit: I never used to charge much more repairing touchscreens than replacement regular screens but the designs and parts are so crappy I charge double now. It's almost as bad as iPhone and iPad parts. Sometimes I just hope they say no;)

The shitty part about this is, this is the second screen they sent me. The firs one was the complete wrong one. So now it has been two weeks with the customers laptop. Not sure how I'm going to explain this one to the customer.

I've been there, all you can do is tell them the truth, it's not your fault really. Most people will be OK with it, just hope you don't get one of "those." If they really need to used the laptop you can send it home with them without the new digitizer on it in a worst case scenario and they can bring it back in when the part arrives.

Edit: Also may want to get it from a different place unless you usually have success with your current supplier.

I normally just get my screen stuff from laptopscreens.com. But they were out of stock. Everyone seems to be in short supply on these screens. But the guy on ebay has 20,000 reviews, mostly positive, so didn't think it would be this bad. I'm thinking he is in a pickle as when I ordered it, it had said one left in stock. So when he sent me the one he though he had, it wasn't even the right one, the digitizer board couldn't even fit it. So I returned it, I think he dipped into defective stuff so he could send me a knew one.

He is offering me another return. Not sure if I should go for a refund or give him one more chance.

I got the new one sent, still does the same thing. So beginning to think I am missing something. I asked the customer if she had issues previously but she says she didn't, but doesn't care if the touchscreen works or not. But I don't like that answer, can't think of anything else it would be, I would think if it was the LCD the picture would be messed up. That leaves only the Digitizer board at this point, so can possible order a new one, but don't think it would even work if that was bad?

Oh one other weird thing, if I load HP hardware diagnostics, there is a hardware test, when I run that, it has a test for the touchpad. You touch squares and they change color as you touch them. It always thinks I am touching the other side of the screen?? any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you are like me you want to figure this out because it's got you hooked, maybe it's time to cut bait, unplug the digitizer cables and just leave it as regular laptop with a pretty screen cover. If the customer is OK with it, don't worry about it. This could be the digitizer board, the cable to the motherboard, it could even be the mother board, where do you stop?

I'm going to finish running all updates on windows, maybe get lucky. I even tried a BIOS flash as hp recommends that on one of their troubleshooting guides. If this don't do it, then will just call it a quits.

Next time though, going to order all parts at the same time, digitize, digitizer control board, and cable even if possible. If they don't want to pay that much, then its on them. That way can narrow it down timelier. *Shrug*
