I am working on this pc, i have scanned and found no virus's

This is an older computer but here is the issue:

In safe mode internet works great, with both ie and firefox
In normal mode it does not work at all, no webpages can be pulled up, however, I can ping any website with %0 loss.

This pc has hardly anything installed on it, no antivirus, no firewall, nothing. I have even disabled the windows firewall and still nothing.

Any reasons why this would be doing this?

I have tried winsock fix, reseting all the default settings in IE, just cant get the web up and it was working fine when i downloaded and installed windows updates. After the updates its not working, like I said I can ping sites and the network shows as connected it just wont open any web pages in either browser..

Are you getting a 404 error when trying to view a page?

EDIT: please post output of ipconfig /all as well as the result of your ping attempts

no 404 error i just says internet explorer cant display this page

I cant copy and paste the ipconfig /all info on here can I? I am looking at it and everything looks normal, what specific line are you needing?

when i ping www.google.com
i get bytes=32, time=79ms, TTL=241 on all four attemps
packets sent 4 and packets received 4

anoter vote for a proxy server setting.

Also, try using a portable web browser and see if it is affected.

yes within internet properties...can you ping the urls by name...eg yahoo.com
if so then its not a DNS issue.

wanted to make sure DNS was working but if you can ping www.google.com and get reply's that should be good to go. Try flushing your DNS (ipconfig /flushdns) and then try pinging it again and see if it goes through. I was thinking the proxy option but that wouldn't explain why FF doesn't work.

EDIT: You can copy/paste from a command prompt. Click the icon in the top left corner of the window > select edit > choose mark. Then highlight what you want and press enter. That copies it and then you can paste it wherever you want.

proxy is not checked. I have done what you said and flushed the dns and it pings good, but firefox and ie are still not pulling up webpages. im stumped becuase it worked fine before I did the windows updates.

well yea i can see the updates that it installed, but they all say, security update for windows xp or update for windows xp or hotfix for windows xp

i have reinstalled the drivers, i have not uninstalled them completely, but like i said it works in safe mode.

there are like 46 updates and they were all from today

Other computers on same network online?

It doesn't have a static IP right? if not, have you tried assigning the NIC a static IP?

I have used firefox portable and am getting the same results.

There are other computers, such as this one online right now and normally any computer I plug in to the internet here works just fine with no configurations.

You may have success trying this, I have found it to work for me in the past when dealing with a similar issue. Uninstall all network protocols and services and then completely uninstall your network adapter and it’s driver. Then re-boot and re-install everything
