I set up a brand new Netgear AC1900 WiFi Range Extender Model: EX7000 range extender today (I've set up several of this model with no major issues). It is connected through the ISP provided wifi/router. I used the simple WPS setup, then logged into the mywifiext.net interface from my laptop. I tried updating the firmware from here which failed through the app so I downloaded it manually to the laptop, and then updated it by browsing to the downloaded file. From there, I moved the extender to its new location (same location as the previous unit, plenty of signal strength).
When I connected the desktop through the ISP's WiFi, I get issued a 192.168.1.x IP (though weak signal, thus the extender). When I connect through the EXT Wi-Fi, I get issued a 169.254.37.x IP address on both their desktop and their wireless printer. What is really weird, is that I CAN get on the internet with the 169 address, though some sites seem to be unreachable (like weather.com).
I had to leave the site before contacting NetGear support but have talked to them since. As expected, they suggested resetting the extender to factory settings and redoing the setup. Any other suggestions?
