Hi guys,

I have a Hp Dv6 in for repair, when switched on I get caps lock/num lock flashing twice. According to HP's website this is for corrupt bios.
I know there is a way to run a bios flash fromm boot using a thumb drive, the only problem is I cannot find the correct bios..
HP site for this laptop has a few updates but no bios updates.
Does anyone know of any third party sites that will carry a download I can use.

Its been a while since I posted so hope you guys are all good.
( theres been a few changes for me lately, but still got my foot in the door of pc repair ;) )

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks Martyn I shall do so.
Thanks too Nigel, hopefully that will work, when I spoke to the wife who booked computer in she told me it was vista (which is the o/s there is no links for bios), but when I spoke to husband later, he confirmed it was win 7..lol

When I was looking this morning, I noticed that vista had no bios updates, and could not see one anywhere on the t'interweb. Mind you, I didnt spend too long searching though :(

Sounds like the system doesn't boot at all? Not even off a CD or USB drive? What happens after the Caps/num lights flash twice?
Is there an Nvidia sticker on the palmrest?

Try pulling the AC power and the battery, then holding down the power button for 20 seconds or so. Any change?

Edit:

Looking up the specs, it appears to have an ATI graphics chip, not Nvidia.

Hi freemont,

No, not booting at all, the caps key and numlock just cycle until I switch off.
Ive tried discharge power, removing bios battery, but ive read if you remove battery, hold down the win key and 'b' key, plug in adapter and switch on it will start an auto search on usb stick for a bios file to load. This is what I want to try next.

Daniel -

This sounds a bit like the syndrome some folks with Nvidia chipsets would encounter (on HP and others as well, even Macs), wherein the graphics chip would separate from the motherboard. Give the USB stick a try, but don't be surprised if you get the same result. You MAY be looking having to get a replacement Motherboard for this one.

Thanks rob_nncc.
I'm struggling to find the name (number) change bios to.
Heres what ive found so far, maybe u have suggestion?
