Need Opinions/Critiques on Billboard Designs

So, we are looking to get a billboard for both of our stores (they are only about 10-15 minutes apart) and the designer sent us a few ideas. They screwed up the logo on #2 and #3, but the concept is there. My personal favorite is #1 and if we go with this concept, the screens will have things like cracks, popups, errors, etc. It will be done nicely though, not cheesy. Please let me know what you guys think.

I like #1 the best. Just make sure they do not do what many others have done - paste a BSD or missing .dll error on a Apple screen. That must be pretty expensive if it's a full size billboard.

LOL, I was actually thinking the same thing ;) Don't worry, nothing is going to print till I approve it.

Text is too small on #1 and it is too busy. Billboards have to be simple because there isn't a whole lot of time to take in alot of info.

What portion of the billboard do you think is too busy? I really tried to keep it simple. Less words to read (I had to add the locations though) and I was hoping that the images would speak mostly for themselves.

Actually he does bring up a good point. So what is the location traffic pattern? Near traffic lights/intersections or along some stretch of highway?

On the other hand I'm sure most drivers in that area will remember/know where Hooters is. (LOL!!!)

Too many images. You have a laptop, a PC, an iPad and I phone, each item has something on the screen. Faces attract eyes but they also take away from wording. And you have three of them each on a different device.

Faces will be removed and replaced with something else. I do agree that there may be too many devices though.

I don't think there are too many devices. All people will capture is the representations - laptop, what looks like a screen (I know it's an iMac) so they think desktop, tablet and smart phone. A BSD is universally known as well as cracked screens. Beyond that I'm not sure what simple graphic could be used.

And since your web address is the same as your business name you might want to think about using the web address instead.

I thought about using the web address and the phone number (although I have two), but after doing a lot of research and confirming with the sales rep, phone numbers and web addresses do not work well on billboards because billboards are not direct advertisements. Statistically, most people will never call the phone number or go to the website.

I'm working on getting my van wrapped so I've been having discussions with the company about what people do or do not recognize/remember. One option he mentioned is to not even have a phone number, just the logo and web address. But I'm waiting on round 1 of the drafts so I'll have to see what they come up with.

And that is interesting about the statistics. I certainly believe the no phone calls but I would think that web address's, as long as they are simple, would work.

Billboard

No. 1
Just has the 'best look' to it. You know, one of those things that you can't explain (without being a designer maybe). But it... well... .it just has the best 'look' to it per se.

I will agree that it is too confusing also. And if you're saying "computers and iphones and Ipads" you don't really need to clutter the visual space with an image of each one. I like the broken screen concept... Maybe make a screaming, panicking face as the image behind it, to make it more interesting and connect the situation to the veiwer

And maybe the designer needs to rearrange the space; create different areas... separate the logo from the text and make it (the logo) smaller; on the other hand keep the detailed location, with the references.

I say make the logo smaller because the billboard has to be useful for those who may want repair services, the brand awareness comes in second place, once they go and find such services.

I know this thread was started a few months ago... but can you share how the billboard worked out for you?

Think it was worth the money?
How did you determine which customers came from billboard?

We actually decided to do a 30 second commercial at the movie theater, which ended up being about the same price as the billboard. It will get shown several times before each movie for every showing. This will be done at 3 theaters in the general area. We should have the commercial done this week and it will start running the first or second week of September.

Thanks for the update.

Do you have a unique URL or phone number for the commercial?

I'm just trying to figure out how you will measure the ROI for the campaign.

Every customer that comes in gets asked how they found out about us and then that information is recorded. We know pretty much where all of our customers are coming from.

Regarding the "apple" pictures you are using - is it fine to use those on advertisements / flyers ?

How about if you included the apple logo - would that be fine also?

Or would there be any sort of copyright being breached?

Sorry about taking it slightly off topic ..

Cheers.
