Hi guys and gals,

I've been trying to get two PCIe video cards to work in a system. These are two discrete ATI 4xxx cards with one being a standard, but older PCIe-based 4600 while the other is a smaller 1x-slot PCIe card.

The purpose of this machine is to drive 4 displays. The user does not play games and the system is used for some proprietary software he runs. The user had this running fine then moved displays and now the system does not recognize the second add-on (smaller card).

Since I am no longer driving, this has been a drop off at my house to look at the system and return it back. I had the system up and running at my house before the user took it home, and now it does not work after he changed his displays around.

What is interesting is the card no longer shows up under the PCI-slots in the BIOS where it did before.

This is a brand new PC from Micro Center that I worked on for him with an Intel new motherboard (PowerSpec) system.

Intel Core i7 3770K Processor 3.5GHz
• Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
• 8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
• 2TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive
• Intel HD Graphics 4000
• 24x DVDRW Drive
• 10/100/1000 Network
• 802.11b/g/n Wireless
• Display Not Included

It runs fine with the built-in and one video card, but the other is missing from boot now.

Any suggestions? My gut feeling is he somehow blew up (zapped) the new video card moving cables as I had him replug, and reseat the card to no avail.

I'm open for suggestions of course as I'm ready to yank what little hair I have left out of my head. :)

Thanks,

John

We did that and it didn't work, initially... I just received an email from the user and came back here to post and update. Everything "decided" to work without anymore intervention this morning.

I have no explanation and neither does he, but I am still a bit unnerved by this and expect a call or email regarding a system failure again.

Thank you for the response.

I'm sort of not understanding...

So you tried the card which is no longer showing in the bios, and it works in another machine? or another slot in the current machine?

If that card functions fine in another machine, then you have an issue in his PC. If that card doesn't function fine in another machine, then you have a card issue.
